Thinking of upgrading your house? Here’s how to celebrate the best of coastal living
There’s no such thing as spending too much time outdoors — especially when you live somewhere as gorgeous as Geelong. But if you’d like to bring some of that outdoorsy spirit home (beyond just a bit of sand between your toes), there are a few upgrades definitely worth considering for your property.
If you hit the surf or head out to sea as often as possible, consider adding an outdoor shower and an oversized garage or garage rear roller door to your property. The first is a no-brainer that will honestly make you wonder why you didn’t do it earlier; the latter two are ideal solutions for parking a boat or golf cart and storing surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks and bikes. You can also designate a room indoors as your mudroom, where you can store your sports kit without worrying about tracking mud through the house.
Fancy something a little more highbrow? There’s something about having a built-in wine cellar or wine fridge that feels suitably classy—especially if you then stock it full of some of the best local grapes. Take things a step further by designing your courtyard to facilitate outdoor entertaining, or, if your home offers sweeping views of the Surf Coast or spectacular bushland, go all out with something called reverse living: swap your house around by moving your living and dining rooms upstairs, so you can show off your view while you and your guests sip that delicious rosé.
